September 2023
Lincoln Academy
September has been an exciting month filled with a lot of firsts!
*first spaghetti lunch *first Lincoln Launch meeting between Mrs. Powell and our 8th grade students *first choir lesson for our second and third grade students *first field trip *first invitation to participate in the "Galaxy of Lights" art contest
We had an engineer who came to speak with our seventh and eighth grade students. He brought a STEM activity that involved the students working together to manufacture a foam owl decoy.
Tate Farms welcomed our kindergarten through third grade students for a sneak peek! Our students were able to have a private tour of the pumpkin farm. While our students were having a great time, they were also serving as a training group for the new tour guides at the farm. So it was a win-win situation!
The fifth grade students went to Ditto Landing to take a tour of the Pinta while it was docked in Huntsville. It was a terrific experience for the students and a fun way for them to kick off their unit learning about explorers.
Little Linc
A month into school, and our Little Linc Preschoolers are already learning and growing! The children are settling into our preschool routines and have started daily literacy groups, Montessori inspired tray work, and reading books and making crafts based on the weekly theme. Each morning begins with Bible time, when we have a time to pray and focus our hearts on God and His love for us. Thus far, we have covered the stories of Creation, man's fall into sin, the flood, and God's covenant with Abraham. This fall we will continue to learn the stories of the Old Testament, each one pointing towards the promised Savior, Jesus.
One of our greatest joys at Little Linc is sharing the Bible not only with our preschoolers, but their parents as well! At our first parent meeting, we shared our Bible curriculum with our preschool families. We first demonstrated a Bible lesson with the wooden storytelling pieces we use with children. Then we showed each parent how they can read our weekly stories at home, ask their children questions to help their understanding, and then pray over the needs of their family. Each family received an age appropriate children's Bible and a binder with the family lessons. Each week, the children can return their Bible bags for a treat and the new story. Please pray with us that God will encourage each family to read His Word and come to know Him in a deeper way this school year!
In other exciting news, we added a brand new pre-k class this year, bringing our total to three classes with 34 preschoolers! If you would like to help provide some needed books or supplies for this new class, you can click on our Amazon wishlist here.
Saturday Work Day
SERVING Saturdays are a time where we rally volunteers to help out the properties team however is needed for the week. We meet every Saturday morning starting at 8 AM. While we hope every Saturday is sunny and 75 degrees, that obviously is not always the case. Last Saturday we had a high chance of rain and cooler temps as Fall is approaching. Despite the forecast, we had over 20 volunteers on site! Volunteers from Cove Church, Madison Methodist, The Village Church, Sanctuary Community Church, and Vantage Leadership Initiative as well as a few individuals spent time in the rain cleaning debris and construction material from around the campus. They also helped with yard work and cleaning within Lincoln Academy. We are so thankful for their hours spent with us and we know that we could not do what God has called us to in Lincoln Village without the help of these amazing volunteers.
Serve Huntsville and Community Grants
We are honored to have been a part of Serve Huntsville with Whitesburg Baptist Church! Their College and Young Adult ministry spent time painting a house, clearing brush, and cleaning a residence to prepare for a new neighbor. Thank you team for helping prepare the way for someone to encounter Jesus at Lincoln Village!
We are so thankful to have received grants and donations from Community Bank Partners, Kiwanis Club of Huntsville, Community Foundation, Vantage Leadership Initiative and The Caring Foundation. Thank you to these generous organizations!
