October 2024

Lincoln Academy

Our students and teachers celebrated the end of quarter one by taking a week to rest and rejuvenate!  Fall break is a good time to reflect on quarter one, relax, and prepare for quarter two.

Immediately following fall break, our teachers met with parents to review quarter one report cards.  All parents conferenced in person with the teachers.  We appreciate the help of our volunteer translator and hearing-impaired interpreter.  They are essential in helping us communicate effectively.

The Biblical truth for October is “I am Forgiven.” What an important reminder for all of us!  We spent all month learning about how to ask for and receive forgiveness.

We experienced beautiful weather this month so we could enjoy P.E., free play, and science experiments outside!

It was a fun month for field trips! The middle school students visited Tigers for Tomorrow Wild Animal Preserve in Attalla.

Our third through fifth grade students went to the VBC to see the Fantasy Playhouse production of The Wizard of Oz.

Mad Scientist Day for third through fifth graders is a yearly hit!  The children rotated to three different stations and performed experiments.  They learned about weathering and erosion, motion and stability, as well as the effects of temperature on a solution.

Little Linc

Our Little Linc preschoolers have settled into their routines and are having a wonderful fall!  One of our favorite themes to study in the fall are community helpers.  We've been blessed to have several guest speakers visit the preschool, including the fire fighters from our local fire station.  Touring the fire truck was a special treat for our students!

During our after school program, the pre-K students are exploring God's world this year, following the days of creation.  Currently, they are learning about space and enjoying activities involving astronauts, the planets, and the stars.  Later in the month, Mill City Church hosted a family friendly trunk or treat at Lincoln Village Ministry. It was a special joy to see multiple students dressed up as astronauts for the occasion and know that their learning is going beyond the classroom.

Our highlight for October was the Lincoln Village Ministry Banquet.  The preschoolers were able to participate by sharing a worship song for the banquet guests.  The children sang "Praise" by Elevation Worship which echoes our scripture memory verses from Psalm 103.  Please pray with us that Jesus would help hide these words in the childrens' hearts and use them to impact their lives both now and in the future.

"Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—

who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion."

Evolve Program - Partnering with Habitat for Humanity

Lincoln Village Ministry Field Staff is happy to announce three (3) residents have been accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program!  These residents have been with Lincoln Village from about 1 1/2 to over three years, and are already preparing for homeownership.  The Habitat for Humanity program offers 30 year zero-interest mortgages with affordable monthly payments for qualified participants.  This is an awesome opportunity for our residents, and the field staff is overjoyed at how God has blessed them and their families.  The journey to move in can take up to 18 months.  During that time the Field Staff Neighborhood Coordinators continue to mentor and guide them as they prepare to successfully graduate from the Evolve program.

Scholarships for Kids - Alabama Accountability Act

Scholarships for Kids uses a portion of your tax liability to provide tuition assistance to students who demonstrate a financial need. You’re not just giving a scholarship, you’re getting a tax credit. By redirecting a portion of your tax liability to Scholarships for Kids, you reduce the total amount of your tax bill by 100%. You have an opportunity to give a child access to an education they could not otherwise receive at no cost to you. So the question isn’t “why,” but rather, “why not?”

Most of the funding for Lincoln Academy students comes from this program and we need you to act TODAY to help continue to fund our efforts in providing these children with a quality education. More information can be found in the letter below or you can contact your tax professional regarding details on how to contribute. Thank you in advance for supporting the education of our Lincoln Academy students!

Christmas Needs for Lincoln Families

If you would like to help bless our students and families for Christmas, please contact alison@lincolnvillage.org for information regarding our current needs. We know that Christmas is a time of stress for those in our community as they try and navigate how to provide a memorable experience for their families. Thank you for helping ease some of this holiday burden.

Volunteering at Lincoln Village

October was a busy month for volunteers! We had fourteen different groups on campus helping Lincoln; they demolished houses, painted, cleared debris, and even created goodie bags for our teachers. This month, we were able to transform the outside of two new houses bought the previous month, that is all thanks to our volunteers. We are so thankful for everyone who gives of their time and volunteers with us, even the smallest tasks make a difference.
