Camp LEAD
We haven't let the summer heat slow us down at Camp LEAD! We're staying fit this summer, with a variety of sports exercises at Clutch Performance's indoor facility, enjoying games with visiting volunteer groups in Lincoln's field, and continued golf lessons (we even had the chance to play on The Ledge's practice course!) The kids ended swimming lessons for the summer way more confident than they started--pool time is one of their favorite times of the week--and on a few hot days we've enjoyed playing at the splash pad. For field trips, we explored Cook's natural science museum, the older kids bowled and braved the ropes course at the Main Event while the younger ones went to VBS, and everyone dressed up fancy one day for a special meal and movie at Bridge Street. It's been a full summer for sure, and we've got just one week to go: overnight camp, which many of the kids have been looking forward to all summer.
A big thank you to Clutch Performance, Inc. for coming alongside Lincoln Village and Camp LEAD this year! We spent every week at this indoor, technology-driven facility improving physical fitness, learning new skills, and having fun! Our summer program would not be possible without the help of Community Partners like you.
In His Wakes allowed our kids the opportunity to spend time at Smith Lake learning all types of water sports! JJ's Treats Page came through in a big way providing refreshing treats for our campers and counselors! We can't thank you guys enough for investing in Camp LEAD.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped give our campers a summer full of rich experiences!
Volunteer Highlights
This summer has been busy with youth groups visiting from all different parts of the country! Woodmont Hills Church of Christ in Nashville, TN, Auburn Church of Christ in Auburn, AL, and Grace and Peace Fellowship in St. Louis, MO each spent several days with us helping with tasks around the ministry. They were involved in anything from demolition clean up to classroom organization. They also got to spend a significant amount of time with our staff learning about all that God is doing in Lincoln Village. Aside from serving here, these students were exposed to other ministries in the Huntsville area including Manna House and Northwoods Community Nights. It was such a blessing for them to see how God is moving all throughout Huntsville.
Our SERVING Saturdays have been eventful as well! Along with the faithful volunteers that join us each month, the North Alabama Alumni of UT Knoxville spent a Saturday morning helping us paint a house that will soon be the home of a new neighborhood family. We also welcomed Valley Presbyterian's youth group as they helped us with some vital clean up throughout Lincoln North. All of these visiting groups showed up in a big way to help us move forward the mission God has called us to!
Serve Day
On Saturday, July 16, Church of the Highlands came out in force during their annual SERVE Day to finish a variety of tasks all around the campus. They did everything from painting to landscaping to cleaning to demolition and beyond. Before the day started they got to hear from Mark Stearns where they learned his testimony and the story of Lincoln Village. More than anything we ask anyone to do, we want people to know the story of how God is redeeming lives throughout this community. We were blown away by the number of volunteers that showed up to give their time serving in all these different areas. We know without a doubt that volunteers are a vital part of what is happening here at Lincoln and we cannot say THANK YOU enough!
Welcome to our New Staff
Lynne Graham and Rachel Aldridge have joined the Field Staff team as more properties are being renovated and more neighbors are moving into the community. They will be walking alongside these neighbors during their time here, helping resource them as needed, but ultimately pointing them to Jesus. We know that the Lord placed Lynne here at just the right time and we are excited to serve this community with her. Rachel first connected with Lincoln as she helped lead our residents in a weekly Bible Study. She will now deepen these relationships with the women in our community as she walks alongside them, helping them meet their goals. We are so excited God brought Rachel to Lincoln and we know our community will be blessed by her!
Chasitey Garner joins us as our new Lincoln Academy principal. “My name is Chasitey Garner, and I am the proud mother of Caleb and foster mother of Tykeydria. I have been an educator for 7 years. During those 7 years, I served as Lead Math teacher for the Limestone District, as well as the lead teacher at both Tanner and R.A Hubbard High Schools. Although, I have been awarded the honor of being named, "Teacher of the Year," the accomplishments I am most proud of are the relationships that I have built and lives that I have touched over the course of my career. Providing others with tools, resources, and life transforming information is always my goal. Diversity, equity, grace, and compassion are of utmost importance to me. I am looking forward to utilizing my passion for math social/emotional learning tools to reach the whole child at Lincoln Academy. I am honored to join this team. My hope is that together we can make educational strides that will impact this generation and the next.”
